Triumph Originals - Mexico

AFTERCYCLES HOUSE OF CUSTOM, MEXICO

"EACH BUILD MUST BE UNIQUE AND PURPOSE-BUILT, CONVEYING A DISTINCT MESSAGE THROUGH QUALITY, INNOVATION, AND CREATIVITY."

If you were to sum up Aftercycles’ custom building philosophy in just three words, it would be ‘Less is more’. From their workshop in Queretaro, Mexico, their team of seasoned craftsmen and young, forward-thinking collaborators create elegant bespoke motorcycles that exude balance, harmony and sophistication.

When asked what their favourite workshop tool was, their simple and honest answer reveals everything you need to know about their commitment to meticulous craftsmanship and artistic expression: “Our hands.” Every single element they add to a build is carefully considered. The goal is always to push creative boundaries, but without adding unnecessary complexity or compromising the performance or integrity of the bike.

Over the past 18 years, Aftercycles has learned that so many riders out there are looking for more than just a motorcycle. They’re looking for something completely original that reflects their personality. Creating motorcycles with the power to spark conversations and tell unique stories is something Aftercycles passionately believes in.

Which bike did you choose to use for your custom build and why?

We chose the 2025 Bonneville Bobber as the foundation for our project because it offered a clean and purposeful canvas for our design vision. Its single-seat configuration, balanced geometry, low stance, and rigid-look swingarm provided the perfect starting point — both aesthetically and structurally. The Bobber invites creative expression without sacrificing comfort, engineering integrity, or rideability. It is, quite simply, the ideal platform to carry a narrative of innovation, craftsmanship, and cultural homage. A motorcycle perfectly suited to a build that seeks to honour icons and challenge convention.

STYLE

In your opinion, what makes a custom bike iconic and how does your design achieve this?

An iconic custom motorcycle tells a story at a glance; one that fuses purpose, identity, and originality. It’s not defined by excess, but by intent: every curve, line, and detail serves the narrative. Our design achieves this through sculptural flow and bold restraint. Inspired by British counterculture and executed with precision, the bike features a seamless silhouette, an inspired seat and a twin exhaust system that expresses power through an elegant tone. Subtle, recessed lighting and carefully balanced geometry give the bike presence without aggression. Built on the Triumph Bonneville Bobber platform, it respects tradition while breaking aesthetic boundaries. This is not a custom built to follow trends; it’s built to set a standard.

Which styling details in your custom build are you most proud of, and how do you think they elevate the style?

We’re most proud of the visual and structural coherence in this build; where every styling detail serves a purpose. The carbon fiber custom tail and belly fairings with recessed led lights flow seamlessly into the tank, creating a unified silhouette that elevates the Bonneville Bobber from classic to futuristic. The twin stacked exhausts and wide aggressive aluminium wheels mirror that flow, adding movement and aggression without visual clutter. The Dr. Martens–inspired seat, trimmed in bold yellow stitching, grounds the build in cultural storytelling while introducing a tactile, rebellious accent. Liquid story-telling in a tank with twenty British icons hidden in plain sight, revealed only as light moves across the metal. Yellow brake callipers and the front racing cowl structural bracing echo the stitching, tying the composition together with discipline. These elements don’t just decorate the bike; they give it identity through balance of sculpture and speed, attitude.

BRITISH ORIGINALITY

What element of 'British Originality' inspired your design?

The elements of British originality that inspired our design are the nation’s fearless fusion of tradition and rebellion; from the raw power of Isle of Man TT racing to the cultural shockwaves of fashion, modern art, architecture, literature, film & arts and music. All of them narrated in different areas of the bike.

How did your turn this inspiration into a design for your custom bike?

Our bike channels that spirit through subtle but deliberate references: emblematic places like Silverstone Circuit and the fictional 9 3/4 Platform, a Dr. Martens–inspired seat stitched in industrial yellow, musical instrument shaped footpegs and pedals, a battery cover echoing Norman Foster´s Hearst Tower, and ghostly images of British icons airbrushed in the tank that become a conversation starter without screaming for attention. Each styling choice speaks to a different thread of British culture; performance, protest, artistry, and eccentricity; woven into one sculptural form. This isn’t just a tribute bike; it’s a rolling love letter to the boldness, craft, and character that defines British originality.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our first challenge was to define the right concept that would fulfil the competition’s brief: to “narrate” Iconic British Originality. Choosing just one expression of such a rich cultural identity was no easy task. Given the global scope of this contest, we understood that Triumph enthusiasts and audiences around the world would bring with them a wide range of tastes and expectations. We aimed to convey our message across multiple fronts; subtly, yet deliberately; through a flowing, elegant and thoughtfully executed design. The next challenge was to create a motorcycle that sets a trend rather than follow one. While many custom builders opt to strip a bike down, we chose a different path: to design and build around the motorcycle, enhancing rather than reducing it. Our final challenge was to innovate by developing new moulding techniques and experimenting with materials that could faithfully bring our vision to life.

CREATIVITY & INNOVATION

What aspects of the design and build best showcase your approach to creativity and innovation?

Less is More … a philosophy that defines the aesthetic and balance of the entire motorcycle. The design is bold yet elegant, with clean, assertive lines that capture attention from a distance. As you move closer, the details begin to reveal themselves; not in an obvious or overpowering way, but as subtle elements that blend seamlessly into the bike’s overall form, as if they were always meant to be there yet interesting enough to invite conversations. Every component has been crafted with precision and purpose, reflecting an exceptional level of detail and build quality. The use of deep, refined tones and a carefully curated colour palette reinforces the bike’s cohesive identity, allowing its design to speak with quiet confidence rather than noise.

What makes this build a true one-off custom?

The concept is what ultimately defines authenticity. A one-off must carry a narrative that resonates. It’s a designed object with soul, a motorcycle that doesn’t follow trends or echo others. It stands alone, unrepeatable, because it was designed to be exactly that.

Were there any aspects of the design and build process that you had to change, adapt, or rethink during the build process?

As we stripped down the bike, we gained a clearer understanding of the working canvas. We fabricated an MDF and polyurethane base mould, then revised the tail section’s angles and dimensions once trial-fitted, ultimately designing and manufacturing a new version that also incorporates recessed LED tail lights and integrated turn signals. The seat was reshaped for improved comfort while retaining a sleek profile. To preserve symmetry, we repositioned the crossover exhaust header and opted to polish the weld seams for a cleaner, more refined finish that wouldn’t distract from the overall design. We also re-evaluated the tank graphics, choosing to confine the imagery to the tank alone for a more focused and commanding presence in the rest of the bike. Finally, we revised the colour scheme of the front cowl brace and brake callipers to complement the seat’s bold yellow stitching, creating a unified visual language across the build.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

Where can we see your personal style of craftsmanship in the build?

The full attention to detail, the design of the rear body section that meets the tank perfectly with flowing curved elements fabricated in one piece including a lower carbon fiber fin and recessed lights. The aluminum floating front brace with architectural form and lightness holding a correct size cowl with carbon fiber fins and center piece. Speedometer cover providing continuous body flow. Detailed hand milled shaped aluminum footpegs and pedals. The quality and richness of the body pearlescent paint and correct color combinations. The complicated airbrush technique on the tank graphics . The well executed machined charms on side plates and battery cover. The hand stitched seat and quality of materials. The floating logo on the radiator grill. The attention to avoiding color noise in the engine. The design and execution of the stainless headers and exhaust. Powder coated calipers The ability to easily disassemble parts and service the bike.

How did you choose the materials, finishing and details of your build?

We chose a combination of Prepreg carbon fibre and SABIC CYCOLAC MG ABS resins for the body parts and front cowl. 7075-T6 and 6061-T6 Aluminium for the front brace, footpegs and pedals, engine covers, radiator grill and charms. Powder coating on all exposed aluminium parts that required to be painted. BASF Multi-Stage Pearlescent paint for the body parts and tank. PPG Vibrance paint finish on all airbrush applications. 304 Stainless Steel was utilized for the full exhaust system fabrication. Hand stitched Full-Grain Aniline leather seat. Diode Dynamics LED Strips for recessed tail light and turn signals. Michelin Road 6 Tyres 180/55ZR17 Rear and 150/60ZR17 Front. Galfer Rotors. Denali Horn. We installed several Triumph accessories like Machined levers. Sports bar end mirrors and Triumph Machined Reservoir Cap which accented the bike perfectly.

Have you tried any new techniques throughout the build process?

The motorcycle and each of its components were first modelled in 3D to ensure precision and cohesion. We fabricated the moulds for the upper rear bodywork and fairing using a laser-cut MDF membrane, filled with polyurethane and hand-shaped to achieve the perfect form. These were then coated in polished resins to produce the positive, while the negative mould was CNC-machined. The final pieces were vacuum-formed using a combination of ABS resins and carbon fibre. Footpegs and pedals were crafted manually on a lathe and mill instead of CNC. The front fairing brace was cut from aluminium using a waterjet and hand-bent with heat-forming techniques. Highly detailed graphics were achieved through airbrushing with dual-layer positive and negative stencilling on parchment paper.

THE RIDE

What have you done to the build to enhance the ride?

The first ride enhancement required was the installation of a Fox Rear Shock with rebound adjustment that will allow the motorcycle to perform better under different riding conditions while providing more comfort. The second enhancement was a well designed seat for a good and upright riding position.

What element of the Bonneville platform did you not want to change, and stay true to the original?

The tank which is iconic to the brand. frame geometry and components that do not require any changes and in doing so would modify ride quality and safety. The front suspension which has the correct looks and angle and works superbly. Engine performance- components with the exception of headers and exhaust system.

How do you want the rider to feel when they get on your custom build?

Confident and in control of a performance oriented bike. Comfortable and in a correct riding position. With a desire to ride all day. Energized by a deep growl of a refined and well tuned exhaust. Proud of his or her bike.

Does your custom bike have a name?

“The Narrative “

How would you describe your approach to custom bike building?

Each build must be unique and purpose-built, conveying a distinct message through quality, innovation, and creativity. We embrace the philosophy that less is more, focusing on elegant, meticulously tailored builds that exude harmony and sophistication. Every element is thoughtfully integrated, enhancing the design without adding unnecessary complexity.

What makes your builds unique compared to others in the custom scene?

Rideability and comfort are at the heart of every build. These two factors continuously challenge us; it’s all too easy to create radical designs that compromise safety and performance. Instead, we push creative boundaries without sacrificing the essence of a well-engineered machine. We never lose sight of the integrity that makes a motorcycle both exhilarating and reliable. Combining fresh ideas with experience and expertise, we create motorcycles that are visually striking but also meticulously crafted for realworld performance.

What aspect of British culture has influenced your response to the brief?

The richness and breadth of Triumph’s heritage provided the perfect foundation for our concept. Rather than being confined to one or two aspects, this legacy allows us to create builds that truly narrate British culture in its entirety. Each motorcycle becomes a story – one that blends tradition, innovation, and the spirit of British craftsmanship.

What's your favourite part of the build process, and why?

The final assembly. This is the moment when your design becomes reality, offering the opportunity to add or refine details that complete its character.

Do you have any rituals or quirks when starting a new build? (Lucky spanner? Playlist? Midnight tinkering?)

The whole team starts to feel that same excitement – the kind that keeps you up at night. By 4 am, the messages and emails are flying back and forth, with everyone sharing ideas and suggestions.

Is there a golden rule you always follow when building a custom, and is there one rule you love to break?

The golden rule is that our motorcycles must be comfortable and easy to ride. The rule I love breaking is declaring a design finished and final.
